What Is the Manitowoc MLC650 Crawler Crane?
The Manitowoc MLC650 is a flagship 650 ton lattice boom crawler crane launched by Manitowoc. Its main advantage is that it can be equipped with a patented VPC variable position counterweight system, and with the optional VPC MAX upgrade kit, the maximum lifting capacity can reach 700 tons.
This crane is mainly used in wind power lifting applications, and is also widely used in petrochemical maintenance, Large scale bridge construction and infrastructure projects

What Makes the Manitowoc MLC650 Different?
1 Variable Position Counterweight (VPC)
Most standard largetonnage crawler cranes use two common counterweight setups: an uppercarriage fixed counterweight or a groundmounted counterweight trolley. The Manitowoc MLC650 brings improvements in this area. The counterweight stays suspended the whole time and never touches the ground, while its tray slides back and forth automatically along the crane’s slewing base.
A hydraulic drive mechanism moves the full counterweight tray, making it slide along the tracks on the upper slewing base. The crane’s CCS control system gathers real‑time data including lifting weight, boom angle, working radius and boom length. It adjusts the counterweight’s radial position automatically to match current working conditions.
The VPC system eliminated past traditional machine weight distribution methods. It removes the need for extra weight blocks fitted to the track frame and keeps the whole setup much simpler.
2 VPC-MAX:700-ton class extension capacity
You cannot run VPC‑MAX on its own. It works as an optional upgrade add‑on for the base VPC system. On the basis of the original VPC hardware, add extended mast and counterweight crossbeam. The standard VPC configuration of the MLC650 crane delivers a rated lifting capacity of 650 tons. Activating the VPC-MAX upgrade kit boosts the maximum lifting capacity up to 700 tons. This enables the adoption of longer main and jib arm combinations and greatly enhances the crane’s overall torque performance.
3 FACT™Connection Technology
FACT ™ Connection Technology, also known as Fast Aligning Connection Technology ™ Mainly used for quick docking between boom segments, and also for quick disassembly and assembly of track assemblies.
Putting together the truss boom on a regular crawler crane needs several fit‑on workers. They have to line up pin holes by hand and shift parts using pry bars. Putting the full boom together takes plenty of time.
With the Fast Aligning Connection Technology, guide hooks and positioning pads line up boom sections automatically. A hydraulic unit then locks the pin shafts in place. You no longer need to pry parts by hand to line up holes or lock pins manually. This can significantly shorten the assembly and disassembly time of the entire machine and reduce on-site assembly risks
Learn about more information about Manitowoc MLC650 undercarriage parts
1 What Undercarriage Parts Does the Manitowoc MLC650 Use?
The track undercarriage on the Manitowoc MLC650 supports the full weight of the crane and handles all its on site movement. MLC650 is a tracked undercarriage, so its undercarriage parts mainly include track shoes, bottom rollers, top rollers, idlers, and sprockets.
The entire undercarriage is equipped with a high-strength welded main frame and modular track assembly, utilizing FACT technology ™ , the track modules on both sides can be disassembled and assembled as a whole, adapting to global transportation needs.
Under the working conditions of gravel fields and frequent loading and moving of machinery, vulnerable parts of the undercarriage such as bottom rollers, track shoes, and sprockets will experience rapid wear and require standardized periodic inspection and maintenance.
2 How to Choose Replacement Parts for the Manitowoc MLC650?
1 OEM standards
When you pick replacement undercarriage parts for crawler cranes, proper fit is one of your main concerns. If the parts you choose do not match the original machine, you will not just fail to get them installed, they will also create extra wear against the existing factory fitted undercarriage parts. That is why it matters so much to select parts that meet OEM standards.
2 High Quality
In addition to matching installation specifications, the product quality of undercarriage parts is also a key consideration that cannot be ignored. The selection of high-quality alloy steel raw materials is the foundation for producing reliable undercarriage parts. The quenching and tempering heat treatment process is an indispensable link in improving the comprehensive performance of accessories. Compared with ordinary crawler crane undercarriage parts, products that have undergone quenching and tempering double treatment have significantly improved hardness and toughness, and the overall service life of the machine has also been significantly extended.
3 Reliable after sales service
Reliable after‑sales service provides solid protection for customers. Should any quality or fitting related issues arise after goods receipt, customers can get timely support and solutions. It greatly reduces troubles for buyers, ensures smooth replacement of crawler crane undercarriage parts, and minimizes equipment downtime.
4 Fast Delivery
Choose crawler crane under carriage parts with sufficient inventory to ensure fast shipping and stable product supply.
